About Me
I'm Jimmy Mayfield, a staff software and platform engineering leader based in San Antonio, TX. I build reliable cloud platforms with a focus on SRE, DevOps, and security-conscious delivery, and I still enjoy the puzzle of making complex systems dependable.
Currently at RubiconMD, I lead platform and architecture work in healthcare. I've spent most of my career in SRE, DevOps, and cloud operations, from Rackspace and Mailgun to digital health startups. I like building systems that stay up, scale when they need to, and don't surprise people at 2 a.m. Lately that's meant platform modernization across AWS and Azure, stronger CI/CD, and working closely with security and compliance teams in regulated environments.
Away from the keyboard, I'm happily married to my beautiful wife, Ana. She's the best part of my life outside of work, and I'm grateful for her every day. We share our home with four cats: Gizmo, Yogi, Mochi, and Bean. They run the house; we just pay the mortgage and open the cans.
When I'm not at the computer or at home, you'll often find me running. I'm a marathon runner and love road miles and trail running alike. I finished the San Antonio Marathon last year and I'm training for the same race again this year, chasing a PR.
I enjoy AI, automation, and software development, especially when they help teams deliver better software with less friction. I also try to align my platform work with Twelve-Factor best practices where it makes sense. This site is where I keep my resume, post occasional notes on the blog, and share what I'm learning along the way.
I also offer consulting for website design and web hosting setup. Reach out at contact@mayfield.io or use the contact form.
